Athete Development Training Experiment
Mr Brendan Doogan hosted an “Athlete Development Course” from October 2024 at MMC Venue in Auckland.
This course consisted of students from both Auckland North and Counties Manukau regions gathering for 8 consecutive weeks each Sunday to partake in specialised training in all tournament disciplines.
This enabled students to sharpen their existing skills in all tournament aspects, and learn new techniques that can be used to further enhance their toolbox.
Along with Mr Doogan, these sessions were also assisted by Mr Nahuel Genti, Mrs Zarah Boon-Tavares, Mr Weiloong Cheng and Mr Logan Lum - who were the head coaches for Auckland North, Counties Manukau and Midlands this year at the 2024 National Championships.
This was a great opportunity for the coaches as well, as these training sessions allowed them to gain experience in coaching students with a wide range of ages, ranks and skills.
This trial “experiment” was a great success, having raving positive reviews from students as well as parents, and has led to the programme being continued in 2025.
The 2025 programme is already underway on Saturdays from 8.30am - so students looking at taking the next step in their martial arts journey should contact Mr Doogan directly if they are interested in joining in.
